Small Groups

Posted by jrobby under: Uncategorized.

Just a few reminding regarding small groups…

Ladies -

The women’s bible study starts this week at 6:30PM in rooms 411 (and 413) on Wednesday and rooms 601 (and 603) on Thursday. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up, it’s not too late. Make sure you come prepared on Wednesday or Thursday with your Beth Moore’s “Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruits of the Spirit” study guide (can obtain from LifeWay Christian Store for $15).

Excerpt from Kelly’s email a few weeks ago:

To respect the members of the group, we are going to limit the size of each small group to 8 members and we’re closing the groups to new members after the first week. This will provide stability and a safe environment for us to share and grow.

Each night’s group will watch the weekly hour-long video and then we’ll split into smaller groups to share and discuss. One member (or two depending on how many girls we have sign up) of the GLT girls will lead the discussion time after that, but we will watch the videos for this study as a big group.

This study is going to be an investment on your part, as well as ours (daily homework, 2 hour weekly commitment, etc.), but the reward is worth it. You’re going to get out what you put in to this study and we pray that Jesus does big stuff in your lives through it.

If you are interested (or have questions) email KellyLCassidy at gmail.com

Gentlemen -

The guy’s study is starting this week as well. We’ll be doing an 8 week John Piper study called “Blazing Center.” The study material is $10 and can be found online for purchase. Since we’re not starting the material this week, we can coordinate getting the materials for the guys if need be. Wednesday, 630PM in room 202. Thursday, 630PM in room 602. Depending on the amount of guys we have, a second Thursday study may become available. This week will be more of an introduction to the study so you will not need the study material.

If you have any questions, please contact Wes Collins at rwcollins at comcast.net

The idea of both the guys and girls study is to have a place where we can connect deeply with each other and with Christ. We hope that you all will come and be a part of an exciting season of growth!

Small Group for the Ladies….

Posted by jrobby under: Uncategorized.

Hey ladies! We’re gearing up for small groups this fall and would love for you all to get involved. We, the GLT (Gathering Lead Team) girls have been praying and planning about our study for quite some time and we’d like to share our heart about these groups. But first, here are some details:

WHO: Any girls who want to desire Jesus more and want deep fellowship with other girls.

WHAT: We are planning on doing Beth Moore’s “Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruits of the Spirit.” The books are $20 at LifeWay Christian Stores

WHERE: We’ll meet at Fellowship.

WHEN: We are offering small groups two different nights, Wednesday and Thursday, to accommodate as many schedules as we can from 6:30-8:30ish. (If you can’t do those nights, we encourage you to check out the Women’s Connection group doing the same study on Tuesday nights.)

WHY: We want God’s glory to be shown through Christ as He continues the good work He started in us.

Now, our heart behind these groups:

To respect the members of the group, we are going to limit the size of each small group to 8 members and we’re closing the groups to new members after the first week (September 23rd and 24th).

If you are interested (or have questions) email KellyLCassidy at gmail with your name and preferred day BY SEPTEMBER 20TH.

Hope you join us!

Love,
The GLT girls
(Lea, Leslie, Courtney, Kelly, Sara and Malia)

P.S. Don’t be scared off by the amount of work, we just want you to know what you’re getting into and be serious about it if you decide to join!

Greg Bock: August 16, 23, 30

Posted by Erik under: Uncategorized.

Greg Bock is joining us again for a three week series. As follows is a synopsis from Greg on what’s in store for us.

“One worry is that what goes on in churches today (and in the lives of Christians for that matter) can be explained without ever mentioning the Holy Spirit. In fact, the third person of the Trinity is rarely mentioned at all on Sunday mornings. This could be due to a subtle naturalism (the view that nature is all there is) that has infected the church. In this series, we are going to explore supernaturalism in general – the view that nature is not all there is – and Christian supernaturalism in particular. For the next three Sundays we are going to focus on the following: miracles, demons, and miraculous gifts.

Miracles (8/16). Are there any reasons to think that God does not work miracles today? Why don’t we see more miracles? Why doesn’t God heal everyone who prays? How should we seek the miraculous and avoid abuse?

Demons (8/23). “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.” – C.S. Lewis

Miraculous Gifts (8/30). What does it mean to speak in tongues or have a word of prophecy? Are these things for today, and if so, how do we practice them? Isn’t this all a bit weird?”

I’m looking forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Tim Shaughnessy, August 2

Posted by Erik under: Uncategorized.

We had originally secured Kevin Huggins to lead our group August 2 and 9. Due to some unforeseen circumstances in Kevin’s schedule we needed to make an adjustment in our teaching schedule. We will reschedule Kevin at a later date.

So, This Sunday, August 2, Tim Shaughnessy, our Pastor of Marriage/Family, will be teaching and leading…

Tim holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL and a Master of Science in Christian Counseling from Philadelphia Biblical University. Tim began his service at Fellowship Church in July 1990. Initially, he served on our staff as our youth pastor for eight years.  In the Marriage & Family Ministries Tim teaches Parent Education Classes and Marriage Enrichment Classes which are hosted by our Sunday morning Community Groups. Tim oversees our Married Life Today Marriage Seminars, our Pre-Marriage Preparation Classes, and oversees several of our family oriented Community Groups. He also works with adult couples who serve as Marriage Mentors to young couples. Tim frequently provides marriage counseling for couples who attend Fellowship Church. He has also been involved in providing leadership to the “Dad’s Connection,” a group for fathers who want to grow in their parenting skills. Tim  has been married to his wife Barb for 29 years. They have three children, Hannah, Sam and Elizabeth.

See you Sunday.

Guille Cruze teaching July 12 & 19

Posted by Erik under: Uncategorized.

Join us July 12 & 19 as our Head Elder , Guille Cruze, leads in our teaching time.

Guille and his wife Carol are both native Knoxvillians and met as students at The University of Tennessee. Both are UT graduates. They have four children. Two of them, Matthew & Meggie, are in the professional work place and two, Kelsey & Rachel, are finishing college and high school respectively. Guille is CEO and founder of a healthcare software company and Carol is both mom and wife. The Cruzes have been members of FEFC since 1991.

My experience with Guille is that he brings passion and integrity to everything he touches. I’m extrememly thankful for our Elders and if you have always wanted to know who these men are then make sure you are here the 12 & 19 to hear one of the influential hearts that shapes our Elder board. I believe you will walk away encouraged and thankful for the men that lead and guide our church.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Erik
